UPDATE!!!!
5/30/04
Just to let you know.........trip was a 100% success!!!!!!
Little did I know that this little dog was going to be so special, when I picked her up at the Rescue in July. She had been slated for another lady with MS, in a wheel chair, but because of her activity level, I decided that she would be too much for Barb. A day or two later an e-mail came in from Canada............a lady with Agoraphobia was inquiring about a dog. I looked at Sadie, and she was all she was asking for ...........friendly, outgoing, willing to work..............I e-mailed her back and sent her pictures.................she was all excited and we had a hopeful for Sadie.
The only problem was Canada does not recognize Physciatric Therapy Dogs aka Emotional Support Dogs. So it took us months to get an ok from Canada, and the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.!!!
I have never seen a dog and person bond so fast.......I handed her the lead at the airport and she took over................from then on she was Sadie's new owner.!
Sadie's first leg of the trip was in my lap or laying next to me..(since 911, we haven't been able to practice at the airport).......by the next flight she had decided that her place was on the floor...........and there she stayed till we got to Kelowna...........
At Customs..............she charmed the officers..................and now Sadie is of the ELITE Group of just a very few Service Dogs in Canada, if any. (We think she might be the first, but we are not sure how to go about finding that out. Guide dogs are all that are ok'd in Canada)
Even though still a pup, at 20 months...............Sadie knows when to be business like..........and does her job well..........
The following 5 days with Gail and Sadie's days were filled with eating out, grocery stores, Dr. appt. , Group meetings, bus rides and the last day.........the Mall (a Big step for Gail)
Sadie and Gail have some trails to blaze yet, since Service dogs are so new to Canada.........but I think they are up for the challenge. Her first hurdle will be the Mental Health Center where Gail goes for Group, what a proper place to start.!
